Laurence Carr Launches Eco Design Brand

MILAN — Laurence Carr’s sustainable epiphany occurred in 2014, while working with a top leading interior architecture and design firm in New York City. At a time when the fashion industry was largely viewed as the culprit of the ongoing environmental crisis, Carr realized her own peers were ignoring their industry’s contribution. Conversations about an ecological approach to designing interiors were nonexistent between her colleagues, manufacturing reps, architects and designers, she reminisced.

“As a global citizen who has lived on four continents, as a designer, and as a mother of three children, I wanted a career that had a more meaningful legacy than simply beautifully designed spaces and products. I wanted to be part of solving the problems these industries were creating and foster a positive impact that would live on much longer than my own efforts,” said French-born Carr, who is the founder and chief executive officer of her

How New Balance built a $5 billion brand

When Richie Roxas bought his first pair of New Balance sneakers in 1994, he had no idea he was 20 years early to a trend.

While his sneakerhead friends were busy chasing the latest Nike release, Roxas decided to forge his own path.

“I found New Balances to be the most comfortable,” he tells CNBC Make It. “They were sort of like this underdog brand. And I gravitated towards them because not a lot of people were wearing them.”

Now 43, the shoe collector owns over 600 pairs of sneakers from the Boston-based brand. As his floor-to-ceiling collection has grown, so has New Balance.

What was once commonly viewed as a favorite of dads across America — occasionally mocked for its “ugly,” chunky aesthetic — has over the past decade evolved into a fashion-forward brand in its own right.

Fashion Brand Orlebar Brown Evokes the Spirit of Summer in New Campaign

The legendary Bulldog is to Orlebar Brown what the Trenchcoat is to Burberry. With 25 years of heritage, it has stood the test of time and epitomises everything O.B. represents. Crafted from over 60 individual materials by hand, this film was ultimately commissioned not just to celebrate this icon, but to pay homage to the design work and heritage of the brand.

Atelier Jolie: Three things to know about Angelina Jolie’s collaborative fashion brand

NEW YORK, May 21 — Known as an actress, producer, model and activist, Angelina Jolie now intends to shine as an entrepreneur. The American actress has announced the launch of a fashion brand, Atelier Jolie, which stands out for its collaborative, ethical and eco-responsible approach — among other things — not to mention its desire to reconnect with the traditional fashion design process. Here are three things to know about this new label, launching in fall 2023.

Celebrities have been launching new brands in the fashion and beauty sectors for several years. There’s Rihanna’s brand Fenty, focusing on cosmetics and lingerie, Lizzo and her brand of sculpting underwear, Yitty, and Selena Gomez with her Rare Beauty makeup brand. So many labels that have managed to win over consumers, no doubt thanks to their creators’ large fan communities, but also (and especially) thanks to their commitments. Stars are no longer

Advisory Board Crystals Has the Universe on Its Side

Southern California-based fashion label Advisory Board Crystals has the universe on its side. The brand’s co-founders, Remington Guest and Heather Haber, double as designers and lovers — and, of all places, their origin story begins in a rather awkward Uber Pool ride in 2015.

Guest, who was visiting Los Angeles at the time, hopped in the backseat of the car alongside his friend to find Haber, who, in typical Pool fashion, wanted nothing to do with the strangers cooped up next to her. “We’re both antisocial, so she was on her side of the car looking out the window — like, not towards me — and I didn’t wanna see who else was in the car either,” Guest told Hypebeast. “I only took the Pool because it was four dollars,” Haber added.

In their six-minute-and-49-second ride, however, they discovered that they had both worked for Scott Sternberg’s cult brand, Band

“A lot people don’t know that Pima has a fashion program,” says Savannah Franco. Franco is the director of the program’s upcoming showcase on Friday, May 19.

“I actually started off doing criminal justice, I had no idea a fashion program existed here,” says Franco.

Though some may not know about it, PCC’s Fashion Design and Clothing Department has a lot to offer students wanting to pursue a career in fashion.

“I did not know how to sew when I started in the fashion program and then I came out with my own clothing brand,” Franco tells me.
