After the divisive 2022 Met Gala, it seems that a disgruntled and self-described “depressed gay intern” has taken it upon themselves to spill the tea about the upcoming 2023 Met Gala.
Taking to real life gossip girl, Deux Moi, the incognito intern revealed that a certain luxury fashion house not only missed the memo but hinted at what next year’s theme will be.
In the iconic words of RuPaul, the category is: space realness.
Time to whip out your Supré galaxy tights or (for the more fashion-forward girlies) the Realisation Par 1996 zodiac slip dress because a certain British magazine editor is about to teleport us to Mars.
“I work at the HQ for one of the designers who misunderstood the MET Gala assignment and we just got scolded!!!!!,” the nameless tea-spilling assailant wrote.
Considering the amount of exclamation marks, we can imagine the fashion house certainly copped the third degree, or the Miranda Priestly pouted lip treatment.
As for who we think the designer in question is? That’s one name we’re saving for our burn book.
“For the first time since ’83 designers will now need their outfits pre-approved, regardless of who the clothes hanger walking the red carpet will be,” they continued.
“Side note: Next year’s theme is rumoured to be space-themed and we might have to genuinely dress Elon f**king Musk.”
Given that he’s attempting to colonise Mars, you’d think that Musk would know a thing or two about space-age apparel.
Now, TikTok is taking it upon themselves to serve as the internet’s stylist and share what they think the celebrity style set should wear if the theme is inevitably revealed to be space.
Of course, with Schiaparelli’s recent Spring/Summer 2022 Haute Couture collection entitled ‘Planet Schiaparelli’, the interstellar-esque design would be fitting for fashion’s night of nights.
Some savage TikTok users have even taken it into their own hands to speculate, or “dress”, our favourite celebrities.
“I would dress up as Pluto and not show up,” wrote one user. Honestly, mood.
“If Gaga doesn’t show up in nothing but a tramp stamp that says ‘Venus’ I don’t want it”, said another.
As for what we’d love to see? Natalie Portman paying homage to her iconic Star Wars character Padmé Amidala would be a major mood, or Jeremy Scott continuing his 2001: A Space Odyssey collection with Stanley Kubrick approved designs would make our year.
Sadly this theme hasn’t been confirmed so whether we’ll actually see these celebrities make like the planets and show up as a walking constellation is written in the stars.
