Olivia Newton-John, who played Sandy in the iconic 1978 movie Grease alongside John Travolta, died from breast cancer on Monday (August 8th), the BBC reports.
Her husband John announced the star’s passing on Facebook, writing: “Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends.”
The British-Australian singer and actress also starred in Xanadu, Two of a Kind and A Few Best Men and released a staggering 26 studio albums throughout her amazing music career.
She had been battling breast cancer for 30 years, first being diagnosed in 1992. It then returned in 2013 and spread to her spine in 2017, developing into stage 4.
The actress’ Grease co-star John Travolta also paid tribute, writing on Instagram: “My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible.”
